Battleground Estates
When we think of towns that have been transformed from rural to suburbia, we usually think of newer towns like Alpharetta or Marietta. But when it comes to transforming towns into suburbs, Battleground Estates is a true trailblazer. This town in Murfreesboro, TN is the first community in the state to incorporate autonomous housing developments. This means that rather than one developer building multiple homes, an individual builds and sells them as individual properties to buyers who are buying for investment purposes rather than as primary residences. In case you’re curious, Battleground Estates was created by developers Ronald Detlefsen and Gregory Holmgren — two brothers who own a company called Oasis Communities based in Green Bay, WI. The two developers bought almost 4200 acres outside of town with the intention of creating a master-planned community complete with retail centers and services for residents once they moved in. And after more than 30 years of work and over $500 million invested, it looks like they accomplished just that! Today Battleground Estates has many new communities built around town including Orchard Hills (a golf community), Chantlou Farms (an equestrian community), and Southfork Acres (a planned community). The following article will explore what makes Battleground Estates so special…
History of Battleground Estates, Murfreesboro, TN
Battleground Estates was founded in 1989 by brothers Ronald Detlefsen and Gregory Holmgren. The two brothers were developers who had experience in real estate and had previously built residential communities in Wisconsin and Texas. The two brothers bought almost 4200 acres outside of Murfreesboro and converted the land into the newest community in the state. The two wanted to create a master-planned community with retail centers and services for residents once they moved in. The partners first planned out Battleground Estates and subdivided the land into 26 neighborhoods. They also built a water treatment plant and a sewer treatment plant to help make sure that everything in the community was running smoothly before the first homes were built. Next up is Scotland Acres
